THC v. CBD
The two main compounds in cannabis are THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD, and they have different effects on the body. THC is the psychoactive compound that creates the "high" feeling. It can be effective for pain, nausea, and sleep disorders. CBD is non-psychoactive and is widely used for its therapeutic effects without the "high."
MS Cannabis Regulations
-
Patients are allowed to possess up to 3 ounces of medical cannabis per 14-day period.
-
Consumption is allowed only in private spaces and not in public places.
-
Mississippi does not currently allow personal cultivation of cannabis for medical patients (as of 2025).
-
The regulations can change, and it’s important for patients to stay updated via the Mississippi Department of Health website.
Storing Medical Cannabis
Proper storage of medical cannabis ensures that it remains potent, safe, and effective for patients. Improper storage can lead to the degradation of THC and CBD.
-
Temperature: Store cannabis in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposure to heat or direct sunlight.
-
Container: Use airtight containers to prevent moisture and air from degrading the cannabis.
-
UV light and heat can significantly reduce the potency of cannabis over time.
What are
Terpenes?
Terpenes are aromatic compounds found in cannabis and other plants. They not only contribute to the smell but also have therapeutic properties.
Common Terpenes: Examples include myrcene (sedative), limonene (anxiety-reducing), and pinene(anti-inflammatory). Terpenes interact with cannabinoids like THC and CBD to produce different effects, contributing to the entourage effect. Different terpenes can help with conditions like stress, pain, and sleep disorders.
